I've never been a big fan of the EP, then I heard this one. The first time I ever laid ears on David Bazan's voice I knew that there was something different about him. I had never heard Christianity put from an artistic perpective and yet so personal. On "Fix", the temptations of using cocaine are mentions and how he wants to break free. This isn't a concept album but it surly could be considered one. And what would the theme be you may ask? Searching. Bazan is definantly searching for grace and peace. He finds it on his albums to follow

(If you've read any of my other PTL reviews, you'll notice I rate them all 10's...that's because I'm a PTL ADDICT, and these songs are my drug.)
Speaking of drugs, this album is viewed by many as a concept album revolving around heroine addiction. While it may seem like that on the surface, this cd is really about David Bazan seeking out the Truth. "Almost There" was written right before he accepted Jesus as his savior. And hearing this song live...with his voice raging and straining at the end...{{shivers going down my spine}}...wow...you can just sense that something amazing and life-changing is happening...and it is.

The first concept album from David Bazan, the Whole ep was originally put into production and distributed by Tooth and Nail records. What it spawned was legions of fans in the indie rock arena around the country who loved the storyplot lyrics and somber music that Pedro the Lion used to convey messages of redemption and life trying to discover more about life and God. It remains today a masterpiece of an album, a must-have for any fan or curious bystander that wants to find out what sells out shows across the country tour after tour. Get it before the new Pedro cd comes out later this year, being recorded now by Aaron Sprinkle at the Compound in Seattle.
