iphone apps are not hype and marketing. this is purely for the fan base. we are not going to get any new fans with this. it's a little piece of software so people can get news and tour dates more easily on their iphone. it's not like we bought banner ads on pitchfork or i'm wearing a shirt that says "buy bazan's iphone app" at a yankees game. _________________ "Your revolution is over. | I'm confused about what's wrong with marketing an artist anyway. |

there's nothing wrong with marketing. depends on how it's done.
some people push, push, push. you probably had to deal with this a lot when doing talent booking.
push marketing requires spending a lot of money. basically paying people to pay attention to you. paying someone to beg press to write about you, paying to get on the radio, paying for advertising, paying to get people to come to your shows, paying to get your album into record stores, etc.
the momentum for the artist usually stops as soon as the money and the push stops.
i'm more about letting people pull. we make stuff available. we put it up on our websites and let fans pull the info if they want it. if they like the music and care about what Bazan is doing, then they'll help spread the word to their friends.
momentum is pushed forward as long as fans care about what you are doing.
that's sort of the only legit way to grow a fan base and to have any longevity. _________________ "Your revolution is over. Condolences. The bums lost." |

the real trick is working for a band that's so good people can't ignore them.
once you have that figured out you could read every word these guys write to help fine-tune your efforts on spreading the word in a non-destructive way.
