.Org: a community

Postby Mattmon » Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:09 am

In another thread jefferey made a comment that he would be happy if dave even mentioned .org in his liner notes (though think he has already done this) and it has sort of got me thinking.

At what point did you start to think of .org as a community rather than just a place to steal mp3s and find sweet deals for pirated movies? I mean this place has really grown into something. Many of us know each other on a pretty personal level through the boards and some of us would even consider each other actual friends, not creepy internet acquaintances.

In 2002 when I first joined the boards. The reason I showed up was that I wanted to know what to expect at my first bazan show. I had been listening to him for awhile but had not made it out to see a show.

It wasn't until 2005 when I said hi to dave and bob at a headphones show that I started to feel like I was a part of something cool. Since then I have met many people from the board and think this is an important place.

I just checked, I wandered over in 2002 too, but were we somewhere else before here? There were a few PTL places, a Yahoo one or something, another board with more tabs?

I think I settled here as you guys were funnier.

Dot Org always felt like a smaller, closer knit version of sweetadeline.net which was my first internet community (built around Elliott Smith fans) which was fine until his death when it got swamped by ghouls and the musical equivalent of ambulance chasers.

I like the ridiculous in house jokes in the main and the presence of Bob and Dave.

So did the board die for everyone else for the last 5 or 6 days too?

There were some server issues, but now all is well.
