New record player

Postby ansible » Mon Oct 27, 2014 2:03 pm

So my record player is super old, I bought it used a long time ago and have replaced the needle a time or two, but it's dying now and only has phono output, etc. Looking for something newer (maybe capable of recording out to mp3?) and also something that has a lid that closes. My cats are little devils and they will jump on this shit at some point and I don't want to have a record (or the player, for that matter) ruined cause I have a dumb cat.

I know there are other topics on this (feel free to just link me), but any advice on something solid someone has bought before? Willing to spend a couple bills for quality, can't afford anything ridiculous though.

Thanks duders.

I have the above mentioned turntable and it is great.

Awesome, another endorsement. I'm about to buy it.

A question though - does it bother you that it doesn't have automatic carriage return? Is that a hassle to deal with every time a record ends? Even my really old turntable had this so I'm surprised to find that this and other more modern ones do not have this feature.

My understanding is that as turntables increase in quality features like that tend to be dropped. Fewer moving parts means fewer broken peices.
