Headphones - 11/17 - Philadelphia

Postby BlindDeafDumb » Thu Nov 17, 2005 10:25 pm

I have just returned from the Headphones show at the Khyber. All I have to comment on is the setlist ( and the fact that there was no TW or Frank Lenz [the latter I was not expecting]). That means it was only Dave and a drummer I didn't recognize (I believe he was from AMERICAN ANALOG SET). The set was:

Gas and Matches:
Straightforward. Good opener.

I Never Wanted You:
I heard someone comment in another post about Dave doing alot of falsetto. There was a bit of this towards the end. Dave was very strong with the vocals in every song.

Major Cities:
Done with percussion, which created a totally different feel to the song. I don't know if the song benefited with drums. Personally, I seem to prefer the album track. To comment on my preference, it stems mainly from the fact that the original seemed to have a somber quality that the drums somewhat detracted from, but it was still enjoyable to hear the song live.

Five Chord:
Really excited to hear this live, and such excitement was justified by the usual vocal flair that Bazan provided.

Shit Talker
Pink and Brown
Hot Girls

That was it. Short. The crowd seemed appreciative, and I saw a couple people lip synching the words. I was and still am somewhat drunk, so technical and grammatical errors are not justified but expected. I smell like tobacco nostalgia.
We're moved around like circus clowns
When laughter's in demand

I've been in love with things other than the internet. Actually, now that I have read it over it does read like a double negative, which means it says I was expecting him. In actuality, it should read that I was not expecting Mr. Lenz, but I was expecting TW(as in when you are expecting guests, rather than that I was not expecting his absence).

Five Lagers tend to smooth over such inherent subtleties.
