Live at Little Elephant (Kept Secrets/Oblivion/Both Hands)

Postby ansible » Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:03 pm

Dave live at Little Elephant, solo electric -

Kept Secrets - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYDEvrseOaE

Oblivion - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avDSu71GsUw

Both Hands - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcbyP9cm6KA

First, I just wanna say that I know hearing a live version of these songs isn't exactly new, but I think it is important that you, reader, take the time to sit and watch and listen to each of these. They are, or will be, I think, definitive versions of these songs in some aspect - Dave, live, vocals, electric guitar. This is actually one of his more familiar setups, and that lends more weight to how good these performances really are. It reminds me of about ten years ago when we would see a recording of some song that was eventually to be on Curse Your Branches; Dave was playing solo electric shows all the time. That video MATS(?) caught(found?) of Lethal Drinking - the first half of In Stitches, as it was being written - those were some epic days, and performances like that one will always have some resonance with me. Except somehow these songs are better, Dave's new work eclipses CYB, and I think I feel pretty strongly about that...

That's kind of how I feel about these recordings. The translation of the music from synth to guitar creates a dissonance and desperation that the melody of Dave's voice conquers perfectly. Man...I don't know, just watch and listen, there is magic in these songs.

This is excellent.

Sometimes the overproduction of the studio cuts can take away from the emotion behind the lyrics of Dave's songs.

Can't wait for Friday in Seattle.

damn, Both Hands is incredible. I almost like it better than the studio version.
It's the last Noah's ark, so everything has got to fit.

Shape of the cabinet suggests it's a HRD.

I wish he'd take the goddamn Snark off while playing.

I'm finally watching these. So good.

The comments in one of the YouTube video confirmed it was a HRD as well.

In that Echo and Ink video Dave says his tour rig will consist of the Vinny 1 watt amp.
