I always wondered why everything around PTL and DB seem to be intentionally low key PR wise. Perhaps it's a personal choice by Dave, maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I always thought. It seems like there are is a lot of potential buzz left, uh, unbuzzed (music videos, social media, singles, (frequent) reddit Q&A's, "accidental" twitter dick pics, etc).

thought this post was strange...

Bazan is on social media.

Like, what is big name press in 2013? Do you just mean pitchfork specifically?

I don't know why everyone forgets or neglects that Bazan got an enormous amount of press for CYBs. That was absolutely more mainstream attention than PTL ever received.

I'm guessing he, like the rest of us, is mostly just curious about the lack of dick pics. The rest of his post is probably filler.

No, not pitchfork. Maybe I'm just used of thinking as PTL as an obscure band from way back, which I project on DB. You're right, those are big.

Still no dick pics though.

The dick picks joke is funny, because it was a running joke between bob and I that dave should either:

1.) leak a dick pick

2.) masturbate into a bible on stage

3.) fake a paternity suit

for publicity's sake for about 3 years

i have some questions.

1. what is success in the music business?

2. except tv shows... what kind of press do you think we're missing out on?

3. what do you think we could do to make Bazan more successful?

I think success in any business could be measured such that one's income rises above the point of sustenance and into the realm of investment. That way, one's money is making money. In case of extended periods of illness or inactivity, one should be able to survive. Ultimately, as we age, we hope to work less while earning more.

People are probably talking about print magazine covers maybe? No idea. A lot of successful musicians either move into acting and other types of entertainment, or they are involved in stuff that get them into tabloids (marrying a movie star or something). Maybe branching out into other entertainment areas is what people are getting at...like acting in independent films or podcasting or journalism.

Make a record with Danger Mouse. Kinda not joking! Collaborating with a very successful artist or producer is a good way to raise the profile and to expand into a sound that has been proven to appeal to more people.

One thing I think we should have done when I was in the band was to work with a really good producer. We needed to use the album budget for living expenses. We talked about working with J Robbins but we didn't follow through.

NOT SAYING you should do any of this. But these are interesting questions to consider.

i think a "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" / "Time After Time" 7" would be a great way to get the youth to pay attention to Mr. Bazan.

Making a living off a music and not sitting at a desk all day.

2. except tv shows... what kind of press do you think we're missing out on?
Tiny Desk Concert!

3. what do you think we could do to make Bazan more successful?
More diversity and more NEW material in the live shows. I feel like I always get the same thing at a club show. I've come to like Bazan solo stuff more than PTL and prefer artists that are always moving forward instead filling sets with old songs.
