No.

David isn't going to get any off that $30 (and i'm pretty sure the 7" came free with pre-orders, so he wasn't getting anything for it anyway).

Are you seriously saying that selling or buying things secondhand isn't morally right?

and it sounds like he wanted to hear the songs on his laptop/iPod so vinyl wouldn't be much help.

Hallelujah is ONLY on vinyl. This is obviously a problem for many people on this board and it is regularly remedied.

also, they aren't even David's songs, they're covers, so, correct me if i'm wrong, but he'd have to give away the majority of any money he made on those tracks to royalties.

You're wrong. I asked him about it a few days ago.

i'm saying it isn't morally superior to the devil's preferred method of file-sharing as either way the artist isn't getting any money for it. except when you sell it, you can $30 off something that you got for free.

oh, okay. i guess that must be why he asked for it in MP3 and your link to a $30 copy on eBay wasn't very helpful to anybody.

cool man, cool. now, did you also ask him how it feels to have an arrogant pussymouthed dickhole as fan?

FYI...
currently mechanical royalty rate (what we pay for cover songs) is 9.1 cents per song.
5 songs x 1000 art prints = $455 + some admin and processing fees.
comes in at right around $500 for the royalties.
printing was about $1100
another $600 for photo, design and audio mastering.
couple hundred bucks for shipping back and forth for Dave to sign them.
$150 for the download codes and stickers.
plus labor to apply 1000 stickers (2 people x 8 hours).
so we're into these for close to $2750.
not to mention the week of Dave's time to make the recordings, costs for studio space, gear, etc.
and 15-20 hours on my end to coordinate everything.
it all adds up quickly.

Well thanks for making me look like an asshole, but it was my understanding that we were not allowed to post public downloadable content unless it was never officially sold (e.g., live shows). What exactly is the policy? I am honestly just curious.

The above underlined is all I asked about, and I was surprised. 5% of the total sales seems pretty low to me.

i can't tell if ansible is joking or not. my .org chops are a bit rusty.
not trying to make anyone look like an asshole. i thought it would be better to post the link than someone paying $30 to hear a song we gave away for free 4 years ago.
seems like songs from a 4 year old out of print 7" single are ok to give away for a couple of weeks.
i don't mind adjusting the policy when it makes sense.

and i know you only asked about the cost of the royalties.
i wanted to put that in context of the overall cost of the project.

I think the goal of .org has always been to never post mp3s that are still in print unless Bob has given his blessing or whatever.

How is the cover EP?

I haven't bought it yet because I don't want to take the print out of someone's hands who wants it and money has been a little tight at the moment (Adding my wife to my health insurance is a biotch).
Reason cannot help you if you don't shut up!
